Carbon Footprint and Renewable Energy
Measuring our carbon footprint means accurately understanding the environmental impact of our activities and identifying practical actions to reduce it.
Energy as a driver of change
Reducing emissions begins with energy. For this reason, we have focused our key initiatives on improving energy efficiency and increasing the use of renewable energy sources.
Today, 100% of the electricity used in our production processes comes from certified renewable sources through Guarantees of Origin. In addition, thanks to the recent photovoltaic system installed at our facility, we generate approximately 27% of our electricity needs from solar energy, further reducing emissions associated with energy consumption.
A journey that started in 2022
In 2022, Petra embarked on its sustainability journey by conducting a Product Carbon Footprint study, with the aim of understanding the environmental impact of one of its footwear products throughout its life cycle.
Starting in 2023, this journey expanded to encompass the entire organization. Among the key initiatives undertaken was the replacement of the company's heating system, eliminating natural gas consumption and switching to electric-powered solutions. At the same time, the company invested in photovoltaic energy generation and committed exclusively to purchasing electricity from certified renewable sources.
The first Corporate Carbon Footprint assessment
In 2026, Petra completed its first Corporate Carbon Footprint assessment, analyzing the direct and indirect emissions generated by its business activities according to internationally recognized standards for emissions classification.
The results show that direct emissions (Scope 1), generated by activities under the company's direct control, account for approximately 1,8% of total emissions, while indirect emissions associated with purchased energy (Scope 2) account for less than 1%, thanks to the use of electricity sourced almost entirely from certified renewable energy.
Looking ahead
For Petra, measuring its Carbon Footprint is a fundamental tool for guiding future decisions and supporting a continuous improvement process aimed at enhancing its environmental performance.
